USSD & shortcodes · Custom USSD app development

USSD apps that work on every phone in Kenya.

A USSD service lets anyone dial a code like *123# and use your service from a simple menu, on any phone, with no internet, app or smartphone needed. We design and build the menu flows, the system behind them and the connections to the networks.

How it works

Three steps, no jargon.

  1. 1

    Design

We map what users need to do and turn it into the fewest possible menu steps.

  2. 2

    Build

We develop the backend, connect it to your code and test on a staging environment.

  3. 3

    Launch

We go live on the networks and monitor sessions closely in the first weeks.

What you get

  • Connections to the Kenyan mobile networks
  • Documentation and support after launch

A good fit for

  • NGOs and government programmes reaching rural communities
  • Businesses collecting orders, registrations or feedback at scale

Questions

Custom USSD app development, answered.

Something else on your mind? Ask our team.

Does USSD need internet?

No. USSD works over the mobile network itself, so it works on any phone with network coverage, including basic feature phones.

How long does a USSD session last?

Networks end a session after a short time limit, so menus need to be quick to complete. We design flows to finish well within it.

Who pays for the session, me or the user?

It can be either. Sessions can be free to users with the cost billed to you, or charged to the user, depending on how the code is set up with the networks.
